Sir Edward Elgar was one of the first composers to recognize the potential of the gramophone. He made many recordings of his music, which are now considered important historical documents not only to music historians, but to recording science historians as well. From a set of five marches for orchestra, this processional has become the traditional musical fare in American graduation ceremonies, and is often used in England's royal coronation celebrations. Elgar named this piece after a quote from Shakespeare's Othello: "Pride, pomp and circumstrance of glorious war!" This version has been skillfully arranged by Willard A. Palmer for intermediate piano.
