Am I too old to learn to play an instrument?

As long as you have the desire to learn it is never too late to start playing the instrument of your dreams.

What is the easiest instrument to learn for a beginner?

There is not one specific instrument that comes easy to everyone. Every instrument has its own unique challenges.  You may have heard that it is better to start on the piano or the guitar but that is not always the case. It has been our experience that a person's ability and desire to learn to play an instrument comes from having a connection with your instrument of choice. The important thing is to find something that you enjoy and want to keep practicing!

Do I need to have my own instrument to take lessons?

You've probably heard the saying "practice makes perfect".  In fact, regular practice is the only way to make progress in learning an instrument.  Most, if not all, music instructors will require students to have an instrument on which to practice.  If purchasing your instrument is not an immediate possibility you might want to consider our rent to own option.

How long does it take to learn an instrument?

The length of time it takes to learn an instrument depends on the person learning.  Everyone has their own learning style and what might come easily to one person may take a bit longer for others. The important thing is to not give up. With a little patience and dedication you can learn to play any instrument.

Do your teachers have any experience outside of teaching?

Yes! All of our instructors are professional musicians who have performed and recorded in various venues with local bands, orchestras and well-known artists.  Visit our Lessons page for more information about each instructor and how they can help achieve your musical goals!

How do I schedule a lesson?

First, we recommend that you learn about our instructors on our Lessons page.  When you're ready to sign up for lessons give us a call at (916) 456-8742. Let us know which instrument you're interested in playing, your availability, and if there is a instructor with whom you'd prefer studying. We'll find a lesson spot that works for your schedule.  Some instructors handle their own scheduling, in which case you will need to contact them directly.  Contact information is available at our Lessons page and by calling the store.

Do you offer group lessons?

All on site lessons are private, one-on-one sessions.  Due to limited available space in store group lessons are not available

Do you repair instruments?

Yes, we have two certified technicians: Tom Hannickel and Arnie Gamble.

Tom Hannickel repairs brass and woodwind instruments and Arnie Gamble is a luthier who fixes all types of string instruments.  They can help with anything—from tuning to restoring your instrument back into perfect playing condition. Please visit our Repairs page for more information.  Things we do not repair: speakers, keyboards, drums.

Can I try an instrument before I buy it?

All instruments are available for demonstration with the exception of harmonicas and native flutes, due to hygienic reasons; however, these instruments can still be heard prior to purchase with the assistance of the sales staff.
