Recital Suite Series: Suite Alabama: A Jazz Sonatina - Intermediate
Alfred's Recital Suite Series was created for performing piano students. Each suite is a short collection of fresh sounding solos carefully crafted to be played as a group in a recital. Musical challenges, appropriate for the level, provide interest and appeal. Aspiring pianists are challenged to reach higher degress of excellence while playing music that is truly enjoyable for them and their audiences.
Melody Bober’s Suite Alabama: A Jazz Sonatina explores the state of Alabama through the three movements of a sonatina. The Southern Longleaf Pine, the official state tree, is represented in the first movement, Longleaf Pine Boogie, a spirited piece written in boogie style. The city of Mobile and its coastline are highlighted in the second movement, Moonlight Over Mobile Bay, a reflective, lyrical piece. The final movement, Yellowhammer Stomp, captures the rousing state nickname musically and closes the suite with a series of octaves, chords and glissandi.
