The vocal parts should offer no difficulties for college and community performers. Ossias have been provided to avoid possible difficulties. In casting the parts, the director should not think only of musical qualifications. Excellent dictation is also essential to the projection of the characters and situations. Equally important is the balance between orchestra and voices. The conductor is hereby authorized to reduce the dynamics of the orchestration wherever the words do not come through.
